Ruwanpura National College of Education is a prestigious institution that respects multiethnic, multireligious, and multicultural values, producing exemplary teachers for the world. In line with this, our annual Vesak festival, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and Parinirvana of the Buddha, was celebrated as “Vesak Week” this year on May 18, 19, 20, and 21.
Giving priority to both material and spiritual offerings, the following activities were conducted:
- Construction of Vesak Lanterns
- Shramadana (volunteer) Programs under three phases:
- Cleaning up polythene and plastic along the Kahawatta – Wellandura main road.
- Removing polythene and plastic and cleaning the premises of the Wellandura Temple.
- Cleaning the Pelmadulla Elderly Home and conducting a patient care program.
- Special programs for observing Precepts
These initiatives were executed by first-year student teachers under the guidance of Ruwanpura National College of Education’s esteemed president, A.H.T. Takshila Jayamini, and implemented under the supervision of Vice President P.K. Premachandra and the academic staff.
